The other day while visiting with some friends, I noticed something I have never noticed before; Belgian men are such gentlemen!
Now, there are a lot of different reasons why I love my boyfriend, and there are quite a few reasons I like and respect all of his friends; so in those two areas I am slightly biased. But the more I thought about this, the more I realized I have seen it in every day life since I moved here… with Belgians I don’t even know.
Belgian men are such gentlemen! And more men around the world should take note.
I’m not saying men from other countries are terrible. I’m not saying Belgian men are superior. I am definitely not saying all Belgian men are the same. I’m just saying that some Belgian men carry a lot of different gentlemen trade marks. And they should be noticed for that!
BELGIAN MEN ARE HARD WORKING, BUT ALSO KNOW HOW TO SEPARATE THEMSELVES FROM THEIR WORK
Although this is a pretty standard European way of thinking (the whole life before work philosophy us Canadians all applaud), it’s nice to know that when he’s at home, his focus will be on our family instead of having his mind stuck in his office.
BELGIAN MEN ARE VERY RESPECTFUL TOWARDS EACH OTHER
This is the thing that I noticed that prompted this whole post. When entering a room (at a party or gathering), men will immediately shake hands with the owner of the home/host of the party AS WELL AS other men in the room. So often we’re used to the “alpha dog” persona, it’s so sweet to see some acknowledgement that they are considering their peers as their equals.
BELGIAN MEN ARE VERY LOYAL TO THEIR FAMILIES
This has probably been the thing that has shocked me the most, and I’m not really sure why. Belgian men are really loyal towards their families, and we see this is how they live their every day lives. Sharing the money they make with their family, visiting grandparents multiple times a week, living with their parents until their mid to late 20s (even sometimes, their early 30s). I, myself, was moved out of my parent’s house by 19 and only visit my grandparents once every few months. It’s just not something I was used to seeing, and it’s refreshing to know that the closeness of family is so important.
BELGIAN MEN CAN PLAN FOR THEIR FUTURE (EVEN WHEN THEY ARE SINGLE)
This is something that I admire so much about Belgian men. I know a lot of Belgians who (even if they are single) still have quite a large savings account and are actively planning for their future house and children. It’s so sexy to see a man who knows what he wants and actually does something about it.
BELGIAN MEN ARE WELL-EDUCATED AND CULTURED
I’m not sure if this is just a gift from living on a continent where the countries are border-less and quite close together; but it’s unbelievably attractive when you’re getting to know a Belgian guy and you realize he isn’t only well-educated, but he’s also really culturally well-rounded. Intelligence is sexy, but adding a knowledge of different cultures and languages is such a huge bonus.
